Project Value - £4,630,000.00
Size - 1,440m2

Handed over to the client ready for occupation in September 2023, this project was one of the most complex we have undertaken. Selected for its exceptional value, quality, and efficiency, our modular solution was the optimal choice for addressing the multifaceted requirements of the project. Time however emerged as the primary driving factor as the council sought to have a fully operational school facility on a new site in time for the commencement of the academic year.

Following an extensive collaborative process involving stakeholders and contractors, the finalised design featured 8 classrooms, a library, staff offices, a staff room, meeting rooms, a commercial kitchen, internal and external storage spaces, ample WC facilities, and a spacious 180m2 double-height hall.

A unique design element was the central corridor with an open aspect, showcasing high-level services. This design allowed for the incorporation of high-level windows, flooding both the corridor and adjoining classrooms with natural light. Internal glazed screens were strategically employed to achieve this.

Externally the building had a mixture of external finishes with a traditional stonework plinth to the perimeter and a combination of render, Cedral planks and stonework above. The roof was finished with a dark grey Protan membrane that then had site fitted ribs installed to give the effect of a traditional standing seam roof.

Our MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) works focused on delivering a modern and efficient building. Innovative technologies such as ground source heat pump systems for space heating and hot water, coupled with an underfloor heating system for the hall, were integral to the project's sustainability and functionality. The building underwent comprehensive modelling during the design phase to ensure compliance and ultimately achieved an impressive air tightness result of below 3.0m3/hr/m2.
